The Hope of the House of Aaron
Rueben Levi
Judah Dan Joseph Benjamin Simeon Issachar Zebulun Naphtali

Again I ask:
Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at
all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has
come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their
transgression means riches for the world, and their loss
means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will
their fullness bring!
(Romans11:11-12 NIV)
Eternal
Promises
God made many
eternal promises to the House of Levi and Aaron. These
promises primarily concerned their work in the sanctuary,
their task to distinguish between the clean and unclean, to
teach the Law to Israel, to collect the tithes, and to
cooperate with the government of Israel in acting as judges
and government officials. Some of the references pertaining
to these duties follow:
-

Continued Covenant
Scripture
clearly indicates the covenants with Levi and Aaron were to
outlive the first kingdom of Israel. The judgment or
admonition recorded in Malachi 2 definitely brought a curse
down upon the heads of the priests. However, this curse was
administered in order that the covenant with Levi and Aaron
would continue. Jeremiah 33 states explicitly that as long
as day follows night that God would have priests and Levites
to offer sacrifices and bring offerings to him. Ezekiel
records in the coming Millennial temple that the Levites
will again minister to the people and to God.
Restoration
The restoration
of the House of Israel must include the restoration of the
tribe of Levi. The time of this restoration will be the time
of the Messiah’s return. In some way the ministry of Elijah
will accomplish this restoration. Each tribe has an
assigned inheritance in the land. In the restoration of
Israel as seen by Ezekiel the tribe of Levi was given an
area immediately surrounding the sanctuary. The bride, as
represented by the New Jerusalem, (a picture of the Most
Holy Place) is a city with 12 gates, each named after one of
the 12 tribes. Thus one gate is named Levi and those of
this tribe will find passage through this gate. All
believers enter first through the Messiah (the torn
curtain).

Changed
The ministry of
Levi and Aaron has been changed by the advent of Messiah but
not abrogated. After the sacrifice of Jesus (Yeshua) the
Messiah, animal sacrifice is no longer required or
efficacious. The ministry of Jesus has opened the Most Holy
Place to all worshipers. It is no longer limited to the
High Priest once a year. However, there is still a way of
holiness and a path of righteousness illuminated by the
vessels in the tabernacle and temple which all have
messianic meaning and significance. After the purifying and
refining of the sons of Levi, God will again find the
offerings brought by Judah and Ephraim acceptable. While
these offerings will not be flesh and blood, they remain
“offerings.” A major aspect of Aaron and Levi’s work in
these latter days is the ministry of unity in the House of
Israel.

Exodus 29:9
You shall dress them with belts, Aaron and
his sons, and bind headbands on them: and they shall have
the priesthood by a perpetual statute: and you shall
consecrate Aaron and his sons
Exodus 40:15
You shall anoint them, as you anointed their
father, that they may minister to me in the priest's office.
Their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting
priesthood throughout their generations."
1 Chronicles 23:13
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron
was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things,
he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to
minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.
Numbers 17
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the
children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each
fathers' house, of all their princes according to their
fathers' houses, twelve rods: write every man's name on his
rod. You shall write Aaron's name on the rod of Levi; for
there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers'
houses. You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before
the testimony, where I meet with you. It shall happen, that
the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will
make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of
Israel, which they murmur against you. Moses spoke to the
children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for
each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, even
twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the tent of the
testimony. It happened on the next day, that Moses went into
the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for
the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and
produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds. Moses brought out
all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of
Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. Yahweh
said to Moses, Put back the rod of Aaron before the
testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of
rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmurings
against me, that they not die. Moses did so. As Yahweh
commanded him, so he did. The children of Israel spoke to
Moses, saying, Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all
undone. Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the
tabernacle of Yahweh, dies: shall we perish all of us?

and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.
Exodus 27:20-21
"You shall command the children of Israel,
that they bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light,
to cause a lamp to burn continually. In the Tent of Meeting,

their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
Exodus 28:43
They shall be on Aaron, and on his sons, when
they go in to the Tent of Meeting, or when they come near to
the altar to minister in the holy place; that they don't

and to his descendants after him.
Exodus 29:42
It shall be a continual burnt offering
throughout your generations at the door of the Tent of

there to you.
Exodus 30:8
When Aaron lights the lamps at evening, he

Exodus 30:17-21
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, "You shall
also make a basin of brass, and its base of brass, in which
to wash. You shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and
the altar, and you shall put water in it. Aaron and his sons
shall wash their hands and their feet in it. When they go
into the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water, that
they not die; or when they come near to the altar to
minister, to burn an offering made by fire to Yahweh. So
they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not
die: and it shall be a statute forever to them, even to him
and to his descendants throughout their generations."
Exodus 30:30-33
You shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and
sanctify them, that they may minister to me in the priest's
office. You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying,
'This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your
generations. It shall not be poured on man's flesh, neither
shall you make any like it, according to its composition: it
is holy. It shall be holy to you. Whoever compounds any like
it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, he shall be cut
off from his people.' "
Leviticus 24:1-9
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, "Command the
children of Israel, that they bring to you pure olive oil
beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.
Outside of the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of
Meeting, shall Aaron keep it in order from evening to
morning before Yahweh continually: it shall be a statute
forever throughout your generations. He shall keep in order
the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before Yahweh
continually. "You shall take fine flour, and bake twelve
cakes of it: two tenth parts of an ephah shall be in one
cake. You shall set them in two rows, six on a row, on the
pure gold table before Yahweh. You shall put pure
frankincense on each row, that it may be to the bread for a
memorial, even an offering made by fire to Yahweh. Every
Sabbath day he shall set it in order before Yahweh
continually. It is on the behalf of the children of Israel
an everlasting covenant. It shall be for Aaron and his sons;
and they shall eat it in a holy place: for it is most holy
to him of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire by a
perpetual statute."
Numbers 18:1-32
Yahweh said to Aaron, You and your sons and
your fathers' house with you shall bear the iniquity of the
sanctuary; and you and your sons with you shall bear the
iniquity of your priesthood. Your brothers also, the tribe
of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring near with you, that
they may be joined to you, and minister to you: but you and
your sons with you shall be before the tent of the
testimony. They shall keep your commands, and the duty of
all the Tent: only they shall not come near to the vessels
of the sanctuary and to the altar, that they not die,
neither they, nor you. They shall be joined to you, and keep
the responsibility of the Tent of Meeting, for all the
service of the Tent: and a stranger shall not come near to
you. You shall perform the duty of the sanctuary, and the
duty of the altar; that there be wrath no more on the
children of Israel. I, behold, I have taken your brothers
the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they
are a gift, given to Yahweh, to do the service of the Tent
of Meeting. You and your sons with you shall keep your
priesthood for everything of the altar, and for that within
the veil; and you shall serve: I give you the priesthood as
a service of gift: and the stranger who comes near shall be
put to death. Yahweh spoke to Aaron, I, behold, I have given
you the command of my wave offerings, even all the holy
things of the children of Israel; to you have I given them
by reason of the anointing, and to your sons, as a portion
forever. This shall be your of the most holy things,
reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, even every
meal offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs,
and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall
render to me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons.
You shall eat of it like the most holy things. Every male
shall eat of it. It shall be holy to you. This is yours,
too: the wave offering of their gift, even all the wave
offerings of the children of Israel. I have given them to
you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a
portion forever. Everyone who is clean in your house shall
eat of it. All the best of the oil, and all the best of the
vintage, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which
they give to Yahweh, to you have I given them. The
first-ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they
bring to Yahweh, shall be yours; everyone who is clean in
your house shall eat of it. Everything devoted in Israel
shall be yours. Everything that opens the womb, of all flesh
which they offer to Yahweh, both of man and animal shall be
yours: nevertheless you shall surely redeem the firstborn of
man, and you shall redeem the firstborn of unclean animals.
You shall redeem those who are to be redeemed of them from a
month old, according to your estimation, for five shekels of
money, after the shekel of the sanctuary (the same is
twenty gerahs). But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a
cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a
goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the
altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by
fire, for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh. Their flesh shall be
yours, as the wave offering breast and as the right thigh,
it shall be yours. All the wave offerings of the holy
things, which the children of Israel offer to Yahweh, have I
given you, and your sons and your daughters with you, as a
portion forever: it is a covenant of salt forever before
Yahweh to you and to your seed with you. Yahweh said to
Aaron, You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither
shall you have any portion among them: I am your portion and
your inheritance among the children of Israel. To the
children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in
Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which
they serve, even the service of the Tent of Meeting.
Henceforth the children of Israel shall not come near the
Tent of Meeting, lest they bear sin, and die. But the
Levites shall do the service of the Tent of Meeting, and
they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute
forever throughout your generations; and among the children
of Israel they shall have no inheritance. For the tithe of
the children of Israel, which they offer as a wave offering
to Yahweh, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance:
therefore I have said to them, Among the children of Israel
they shall have no inheritance. Yahweh spoke to Moses,
saying, Moreover you shall speak to the Levites, and tell
them, When you take of the children of Israel the tithe
which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then
you shall offer up a wave offering of it for Yahweh, a tithe
of the tithe. Your wave offering shall be reckoned to you,
as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as
the fullness of the winepress. Thus you also shall offer a
wave offering to Yahweh of all your tithes, which you
receive of the children of Israel; and of it you shall give
Yahweh's wave offering to Aaron the priest. Out of all your
gifts you shall offer every wave offering of Yahweh, of all
its best, even the holy part of it out of it. Therefore you
shall tell them, When you heave its best from it, then it
shall be reckoned to the Levites as the increase of the
threshing floor, and as the increase of the winepress. You
shall eat it in every place, you and your households: for it
is your reward in return for your service in the Tent of
Meeting. You shall bear no sin by reason of it, when you
have heaved from it its best: and you shall not profane the
holy things of the children of Israel, that you not die.
1 Chronicles 15:2
Then David said,
None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them
has Yahweh chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister
to him forever.

Leviticus
10:8-11
Yahweh spoke to
Aaron, saying, "Drink no wine nor strong drink, you, nor
your sons with you, when you go into the Tent of Meeting,
that you don't die: it shall be a statute forever throughout
your generations: and that you are to make a distinction
between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and
the clean; and that you are to teach the children of Israel
all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them by Moses."
Deuteronomy
33:8-11
Of Levi he said,
Your Thummim and your Urim are with your godly one, whom you
proved at Massah, with whom you strove at the waters of
Meribah; who said of his father, and of his mother, I have
not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, Nor
did he know his own children: For they have observed your
word, and keep your covenant. They shall teach Jacob your
ordinances, and Israel your law. They shall put incense
before you, and whole burnt offering on your altar. Yahweh,
bless his substance. Accept the work of his hands. Strike
through the hips of those who rise up against him, of those
who hate him, that they not rise again.
2 Chronicles
17:7-9
Also in the
third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben Hail,
and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to

even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and
Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tobadonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and

and my statutes in all my appointed feasts; and they shall
make my Sabbaths holy.
Malachi
2:6-7
The law of truth
was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his
lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned
many away from iniquity. For the priest's lips should keep
knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he
is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies.

You shall do according to the tenor of the sentence which
they shall show you from that place which Yahweh shall

they shall teach you: according to the tenor of the law
which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment
which they shall tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn
aside from the sentence which they shall show you, to the
right hand, nor to the left. The man who does
presumptuously, in not listening to the priest who stands to
minister there before Yahweh your God, or to the judge, even
that man shall die: and you shall put away the evil from
Israel. All the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more
presumptuously.

Covenant
Malachi 2:1-5
"Now, you
priests, this commandment is for you. If you will not
listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory
to my name," says Yahweh of Armies, "then will I send the
curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I
have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to
heart. Behold, I will rebuke your seed, and will spread dung
on your faces, even the dung of your feasts; and you will be
taken away with it. You will know that I have sent this
commandment to you, that my covenant may be with Levi," says
Yahweh of Armies. "My covenant was with him of life and
peace; and I gave them to him who he might be reverent

of my name.
Jeremiah
33:17-22
For thus says
Yahweh: David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of
the house of Israel; neither shall the priests the Levites
want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to burn
meal offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. The word of
Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, Thus says Yahweh: If you
can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the
night, so that there shall not be day and night in their
season; then may also my covenant be broken with David my
servant, that he shall not have a son to reign on his
throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. As
the army of the sky can't be numbered, neither the sand of
the sea measured; so will I multiply the seed of David my
servant, and the Levites who minister to me.
Ezekiel
44:10-16
But the Levites
who went far from me, when Israel went astray, who went
astray from me after their idols, they shall bear their
iniquity. Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary,
having oversight at the gates of the house, and ministering
in the house: they shall kill the burnt offering and the
sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them
to minister to them. Because they ministered to them before
their idols, and became a stumbling block of iniquity to the
house of Israel; therefore have I lifted up my hand against
them, says the Lord Yahweh, and they shall bear their
iniquity. They shall not come near to me, to execute the
office of priest to me, nor to come near to any of my holy
things, to the things that are most holy; but they shall
bear their shame, and their abominations which they have
committed. Yet will I make them performers of the duty of
the house, for all its service, and for all that shall be
done therein. But the priests the Levites, the sons of
Zadok, who performed the duty of my sanctuary when the
children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near
to me to minister to me; and they shall stand before me to
offer to me the fat and the blood, says the Lord Yahweh:
they shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near
to my table, to minister to me, and they shall keep my
instruction.

Yahweh, to stand before Yahweh to minister to him, and to
bless in his name, to this day. Therefore Levi has no
portion nor inheritance with his brothers; Yahweh is his
inheritance, according as Yahweh your God spoke to him.)
Deuteronomy
18:1-8 The priests the Levites,
even all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor
inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of
Yahweh made by fire, and his inheritance. They shall have no
inheritance among their brothers: Yahweh is their
inheritance, as he has spoken to them. This shall be the
priests' due from the people, from those who offer a
sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give
to the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.
The first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of
your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you
shall give him. For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of
all your tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Yahweh,
him and his sons for ever. If a Levite comes from any of
your gates out of all Israel, where he lives as a foreigner,
and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which
Yahweh shall choose; then he shall minister in the name of
Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who
stand there before Yahweh. They shall have like portions to

Ezekiel
48:9-14 The offering that you
shall offer to Yahweh shall be twenty-five thousand reeds in
length, and ten thousand in breadth. For these, even for the
priests, shall be the holy offering: toward the north
twenty-five thousand in length, and toward the west ten
thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in
breadth, and toward the south twenty-five thousand in
length: and the sanctuary of Yahweh shall be in its midst.
It shall be for the priests who are sanctified of the sons
of Zadok, who have kept my instruction, who didn't go astray
when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went
astray. It shall be to them an offering from the offering of
the land, a thing most holy, by the border of the Levites.
Answerable to the border of the priests, the Levites shall
have twenty-five thousand in length, and ten thousand in
breadth: all the length shall be twenty-five thousand, and
the breadth ten thousand. They shall sell none of it, nor
exchange it, nor shall the first fruits of the land be
alienated; for it is holy to Yahweh.
Ezekiel
48:30-31 These are the exits of
the city: On the north side four thousand and five hundred
reeds by measure; and the gates of the city shall be after
the names of the tribes of Israel, three gates northward:
the gate of Reuben, one; the gate of Judah, one; the gate of
Levi, one.
Revelation
21:12 having a great and high
wall; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels;
and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve
tribes of the children of Israel.
Priesthood
Changed
Hebrews 7:12
For the
priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change
made also in the law.
Hebrews
10:12-26
but he, when he
had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the
right hand of God; from that time waiting until his enemies
are made the footstool of his feet. For by one offering he
has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. The
Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, "This is
the covenant that I will make with them: 'After those days,'
says the Lord, 'I will put my laws on their heart, I will
also write them on their mind;' " then he says, "I will
remember their sins and their iniquities no more." Now where
remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy
place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated
for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to
say, his flesh; and having a great priest over the house of
God, let's draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and
having our body washed with pure water, let us hold fast the
confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised
is faithful. Let us consider how to provoke one another to
love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling
together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one
another; and so much the more, as you see the Day
approaching. For if we sin willfully after we have received
the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a
sacrifice for sins,
Malachi 3:1-5
"Behold, I send
my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the
Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and
the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he
comes!" says Yahweh of Armies. "But who can endure the day
of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is
like a refiner's fire, and like launderer's soap; and he
will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will
purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver;
and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness.
Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to
Yahweh, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years. I
will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift
witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers,
and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the
hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and
who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don't fear me,"
says Yahweh of Armies.
Romans 12:1
Therefore I urge
you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies
a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual service.
Psalms 133
See how good and
how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head, that ran down on
the beard, even Aaron's beard; that came down on the edge of
his robes; like the dew of Hermon, that comes down on the
hills of Zion: for there Yahweh gives the blessing, even
life forevermore. |
